I love my sister-in-laws. This story begins with Ariel. I particularly love to hear Ariel's theories and ideas. She shared one of them with Micah, and planted an idea for him. It was, if you have a genetic propensity to alcoholism and don't indulge it, it will manifest itself in a passion/dependence for sugar. I've some family history of alcoholism, but Micah has more. But, no we don't drink alcoholic beverages. And yes, sugar is in abundance in our home. Probably in America, sugar is in abundance in most homes, but for those of you who know Micah very well, know that the more refined the sugar is the more he likes it. Bring on the Nerds, Jelly Beans, Tafy, Candy Corn, and Mike n' Ikes. When Micah heard Ariel's purposal, he didn't like the idea of having an "addiction". He suggested that for a month we don't spend any money on sweets and have a sugar-fast for one week. I was excitied about the idea since I wasn't alone in my desire to be more healthy conscious. I'm proud to announce, we had a successful week. And a week later, to the hour, was when we celebrated with peanut butter cookies! We continue our attempts of bringing/cooking less sweets into our house, and this second week has been a little more difficult. We've been finding ways around it. Such as.....
Chocolate pancakes! And sweet breads like pumpkin and almond poppyseed! So call us hopeless or inventive, but it makes us feel better.

Way to go! I've always thought about being more health conscious and the benefits thereof, but I haven't had the guts to do it! One of my YW leaders gave up chocolate for an entire year, but let's not push things.
Way to go!!! If you think I am following suit....well....think again!
I call it brilliance. Way to find loopholes in your own system. That's so good though! I've been trying to do better lately myself, but it's easier said than done. My hat's off to you guys!
Becky!
I just NOW figured out who you all those lovely comments were from! YOU! I could not figure out who "Rebecca" was! Ha! I am so glad I finally asked my mom! I love your blog!
Also I agree with Michelle...total brilliance. I am also impressed with your self-control! I'm so excited I have a new blog to devour and that it has your and Micha's sense of humor through the whole thing! YAY! Thank you for all of the comments!
Impressive. I think it's crazy how much sugar most of us consume. I tried going off of it for a month or so for Lent with a Catholic friend and it was tough. It's weird when it gets to where some fruits taste really sugary. The pattern didn't stick though. Good luck!
Wowsers!! Great job!! That isn't easy to do! I find that whole addiction to sugar/alcohol relation thing really interesting!! I had never thought of specific types of food as an addiction. . .heh. . . I guess I should take a better look at what our family eats!
Sugar IS a tough one! One week is a loooooong time for me without sugar and I think peanut butter cookies is a perfect way to celebrate.
I'm glad you listed Micah's favorite candies, too. I always think those kinds of things are so interesting.
Well if sugar is a substitute for alcohol, then I guess I am a sugar lush! Actually if chocolate could be made tasty without all that sugar I would settle for that!
Way to ruin my life!
Yeah I think sugar makes up the bulk of Jared's and my diet. Way to cut it out for a whole week! (is it sad that that sounds like such a long time?) :)
